Our Statement of Commitment to Providing Quality Customer Service  

We are the Provincial Veterinary diagnostic Laboratory for KwaZulu-Natal.  We fall under the Directorate of Veterinary Services of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (KwaZulu-Natal).

Objective

We undertake to provide a high quality, reliable and rapid veterinary laboratory diagnostic and advisory service to our colleagues in the Directorate of Veterinary Services and in private practice as well as to commercial and communal farmers and the livestock industry as a whole. 

We offer:    

  • A wide range of laboratory diagnostic tests in the fields of bacteriology, biochemistry, bovine reproduction, molecular diagnostics, mycology, parasitology, rabies, serology, toxicology and virology.
  • Animal health monitoring schemes, including mastitis control, Salmonella enteritidis (SE) monitoring and hatchery and meat hygiene.
  • Information and advice on animal diseases, their prevention and control.investigation of disease outbreaks. disease surveillance, including controlled animal diseases in terms of the Animal Diseases Act, 1984 (Act 35 of 19 84).
  • Assistance in the training of student veterinary technicians and student animal health technicians, as well as students studying for an agricultural diploma or degree.


The laboratory is situated in the Pietermaritzburg suburb of Montrose, at 458 Townbush Road.

Consultation

We undertake to consult our customers on a regular basis to gauge their needs and the quality of service provided by this laboratory.

Service standards

We undertake to set in place appropriate measures, including prescribed standards and controls and inter-laboratory standardisation, to ensure the accuracy of the results of diagnostic tests carried out at this laboratory

Access

We undertake to ensure that our services are available to all our clients directly or through State Veterinary offices or Courier Services.

Courtesy

We undertake to treat all our clients with courtesy and consideration.

Information

We undertake to ensure that our clients are kept informed on an ongoing basis by distribution of pamphlets, booklets, brochures, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Redress

We undertake to investigate all complaints promptly, fully and fairly.  If you have a complaint, please contact us and let us know.  We will try and rectify the problem immediately.  If you are not satisfied, we will investigate what went wrong and reply within 28 days.

Openness and transparency

We undertake to inform customers of how the laboratory is run, of performance in relation to set standards of service delivery and address any shortfalls.

Value for money


The laboratory operates on an annual budget allocation.  We undertake to ensure that this money is used effectively and in the best interests of the State, the Tax Payer and our Clients in order to give the best possible value for money.
