As part of Operation Sukuma Sakhe, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa, arrived at Sibumba Dip Tank in the Malomeni area, uMsinga, under the uMzinyathi District, on 27 August 2026 to oversee the ongoing Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) mass vaccination campaign. uMzinyathi is the 10th district to be covered in the Department’s province-wide FMD vaccination rollout, bringing the province closer to its goal of strengthening disease control and protecting livestock across KwaZulu-Natal.
Apart from vaccinations, the MEC has directed her Veterinary Services unit to ensure that communal livestock are also supplemented with vitamins, particularly during the winter season, in order to boost their immune systems.
