The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, led by Premier Hon. Thamsanqa Ntuli, honoured the life and legacy of the late Zulu Kingdom Prime Minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

The commemoration took place at the KwaPhindangene Royal Residence in Ulundi on Thursday the 27th of August 2026, bringing together dignitaries and members of the community to reflect on his enduring contribution to KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa as a whole.

The commemoration goes beyond remembering his life and legacy. It also highlights his visionary advocacy for self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods, particularly through agriculture. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi consistently emphasised the importance of agriculture in sustaining communities and nations, stating, “No human being or nation can survive if it does not involve the people in agricultural activities.”

Among the dignitaries attending the commemoration is the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, who continues to build on Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s legacy by championing agriculture, self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods across the province.
