MEC encourages communities to emulate Prince Buthelezi's agricultural journey

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has officially declared the tombstone of the late IFP Founder Prince Buthelezi's final resting place as a Provincial Heritage Site. It is located at KwaPhindangene Residence, where he was laid to rest in 2023. The provincial government passed a resolution during a council sitting to honour the charismatic statesman, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. 27 August marks his birthdate in 1928.

The event was attended by many dignitaries, including the province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development MEC, Mrs T.P. kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, as well as other national Ministers and provincial MECs.

kaMadlopha-Mthethwa expressed that the event was emotional for her, as it reminded her of Prince Buthelezi's remarkable agricultural journey as a proud farmer and that he used to champion the interests of rural communities through agriculture. She said Shenge, as he was popularly known in political circles stressed on the importance of farming for KwaZulu-Natal communities.

kaMadlopha-Mthethwa stated that one of the ways to extend Prince Buthelezi's rich legacy in farming is to engage in agricultural activities.

She encouraged the public, particularly those staying in rural areas, to adopt uMntwana's philosophy of self-help and self-reliance by producing sufficient food to address food insecurity.

kaMadlopha-Mthethwa said that her Department is offering a wide range of opportunities for communities to take advantage of, including the opening of project funding applications for agricultural projects involving indigenous chickens, crops and meat production.
