Handover of sheep shearing sheds and breeding rams in Harry Gwala District

In efforts to ensure the agrarian revolution and transform the lives of our communal farmers throughout KwaZulu-Natal, Hon. MEC Super Zuma visited the Ndawana area in Mzimkhulu, under Harry Gwala District, on Saturday 09 December 2023.

During his visit, MEC Zuma presented 10 rams to the KwaSenti Wool Growers Association.

Furthermore, MEC Zuma officially handed over the Thabo Morena wool shearing shed and 10 rams which will contribute to improving the genetics of sheep in the area and providing farmers with competitiveness in the wool market.

The shearing sheds are a government project to empower farming communities and ensure their active participation in the economy.

The recipients have received all of the essential equipment and training to maintain and operate the shearing shed properly.

Speaking during the handover, MEC Super Zuma pleaded with the community to take good care of the facility and its equipment. He further emphasised that the handover will enable farmers to increase their profitability.

Tau Motaung, Chairman of the Farmers in Ndawana Village, expressed gratitude for the Department's hard work and assured that the farmers and community at large will take good care of the facility.

As part of the handover, demonstrations were also done to practically show the community how the equipment is utilized as it is a fully equipped structure with tools such as a wool sorting table, bale lifting hooks, a single-base mechanical press and other tools.
