MEC Mthembu handed over a cheque of R1 million to the Gayede Goats Project, which is a youth run project in the area. Under the Provincial Goat Master Plan, it was identified that uMsinga and surrounding areas should be the hub of goat production in the Province. uMzinyathi District has been identified as one of the poorest districts in the country but it also showed that it can be a major contributor in the provincial economy through livestock as a commodity of focus.
