The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Ms. Thoko Didiza and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Mcebisi Skwatsha together with the MEC for KZN Agriculture and Rural Development Mr. Super Zuma, were on a robust engagement to accelerate service delivery in Ilembe and Gingindlovu in the Northern part of KwaZulu-Natal.
The first stop was at Mandeni, Ward 11 under Ilembe District where the dignitaries handed over much-needed fertiliser, seedlings and farming implements to small-scale farmers. This intervention comes at a time when the price of fertilizer has skyrocketed as a result of the Ukraine/Russia conflict.
This was done to encourage communities to choose agriculture as a means of combating hunger and poverty while also creating job opportunities. Minister Thoko Didiza, Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha and MEC Super Zuma further proceeded to Gingindlovu Sports Field to meet up with sugarcane small-scale farmers within the area. This intervention stands to benefit over 10,000 sugarcane small-scale farmers from all parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
