Ensuing from World Food Month, which is a month of creating awareness on food scarcity, malnutrition and poverty in the province, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental affairs Mr. Siboniso Duma together with the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi, held a Planting Season Rollout in eMpendle under the uMgungundlovu District.

The aim was to assist small-scale farmers in increasing their productivity and becoming more integrated into the province’s agricultural economy, as well as to improve agriculture in rural communities.

The planting season rollout kickstarted in the fields of Gomane and Nhlambakhosi areas where the MEC’s conducted planting demonstrations. Furthermore, the MEC’s handed over farming implements and seedlings to all farmers in the area.
