2021 PROVINCIAL MULTI-PLANTING SEASON CAMPAIGN

PREMIER SIHLE ZIKALALA AND HIS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OFFICIALLY LAUNCH THE 2021 PROVINCIAL MULTI-PLANTING SEASON CAMPAIGN AIMED AT SUPPORTING SMALL-SCALE FARMERS IN KWAZULU-NATAL

Having survived the skirmishes with a series of Covid-19 lockdowns, recent lootings and consequential job loses, KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala, now focuses on the task of protecting the fundamental right to dignity of all people - the right to be free from hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition – through the launch of the annual Provincial Multi-Planting Season campaign for 2021.

This year’s Multi-Season Planting campaign concurs with the 150th year of the revolutionary mother of the nation, Mama Charlotte Maxeke, who paved the way for freedom and once said, “This work is not for yourselves, kill that spirit of self and do not live above your people but live with them. If you can rise, bring someone with you.”

Therefore, in spirit with her words, the 2021 Provincial Multi-Planting Season campaign has been augmented with over 10 800 small-scale producers to cultivate 25 000 hectares in a bid to optimize the full potential of this sector and to guarantee the right to a decent life.

The campaign is aimed at strengthening the citizen’s solidarity behind the government’s call to begin planting in October so that the Province can have an abundant fresh and nutritious harvest of food before the following year’s autumn season.

The Premier and the Executive Council will thereafter embark on District launches lined up to rebuild and recover the food and nutrition economics of the downtrodden in KwaZulu-Natal.
