In response to the declaration of Corona virus as a national disaster, the Provincial Executive Council has directed the Human Settlements Department to embark on an intensive sanitisation programme in informal settlements which continue to pose a high risk since the virus thrives in conditions where people are in close contact.

KZN MEC, Mrs Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi joined in the sanitisation programme. She said the informal settlements are the target for food security intervention like One Home One Garden, however these will not be possible if the environment they live in is not sanitisatized against the COVID-19 infestation.
