"KwaZulu-Natal Premier Hon. Thamsanqa Ntuli would have been proud to see his mandate being realised in the mountainous valleys of Ncazuka under uMdoni Local Municipality," that's according to MEC Mrs Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa while conducting an oversight visit at Sivusasizwe Primary Co-operative on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. On the brow of the valleys to its foot, green vegetables such as cabbages and spinach lie so beautifully, a living pride of the uMdoni area. It is the work of a five-women-led agricultural revolution that is turning steep, underused land into food and income having employed 31 women and 14 seasonal workers.
The visit brought a renewed sense of hope among the cooperative’s members, who welcomed the MEC’s engagement and expressed appreciation for the Department’s continued support. Sivusasizwe is a 100% female-owned crop production enterprise that has expanded its production in response to the potential of the farm and growing demand from its customers. The cooperative now produces a diverse range of fresh produce, including cabbage, spinach, green pepper, butternut, tomatoes and potatoes, supplying major retailers.
