The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, led by Hon. MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, has taken decisive action to revitalise agricultural activity in the Zululand District. In a formal programme, on Friday 05 December 2025, at Ezibomvu Sportsfield in Mondlo under the Abaqulusi Local Municipality, the Department officially handed over a suite of Integrated Farmer Support Services as an intervention in response to the decline in the region’s agricultural productivity.

This initiative represents a significant and positive step towards strengthening agricultural development, improving service delivery and empowering farmers across the Province. It underscores the Department’s commitment to ensuring that farmers, particularly those in rural and historically under - serviced areas, receive the tools, training and support required to enhance production and build sustainable livelihoods.

In her keynote address, MEC kaMadlopha-Mthethwa reaffirmed that restoring Zululand’s agricultural capacity is central to the Province’s broader rural development mandate. She emphasised that timely support, targeted resources and strong partnerships between the Department, local municipalities and farming communities are essential for growth and resilience in the sector.
