The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development MEC, Ms Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, has commended innovative and modern agricultural initiatives at the Dube Tradeport in La Mercy on 20 September 2025. The AgriZone precinct boasts 16 hectares of greenhouses, featuring agricultural commodities such as cannabis hemp, cucumber and a seed multiplication laboratory.

kaMadlopha-Mthethwa was an invited guest at the KZN Workshop on Sustainable Feedstock Programme, an initiative of Trisab and KZNERA, which aims to transform KwaZulu-Natal's agricultural sector into an inclusive and sustainable industry. kaMadlopha-Mthethwa said, "This provides a viable pathway for emerging Black farmers to succeed as it facilitates market access, a crucial factor in sustainable farming."
