The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Hon. MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa along with uMhlathuze Local Municipality and Brahmanlady Ngubo held a successful agricultural seminar at Ngwelezane Community Hall, eMpangeni, on Friday 06 June 2025. This initiative aimed to address issues of poverty alleviation, ensure food security and creating a sustainable agricultural sector.
MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa was pleased with the programme as such platforms equip farmers with the necessary knowledge, market access, funding and curb the spread FMD engulfing our Province. Furthermore, the Hon. MEC outlined Departmental programs geared for youth development and provide support to farmers.
"I would like to emphasise that local communities can effectively address food insecurity through small-scale farming and the 'One Home One Garden programme'. Youth participation in agricultural activities is crucial in building a sustainable economy and sector. It is our duty to bridge the aging farmers and young farmers in the agricultural sector," said kaMadlopha-Mthethwa.
