Zooming into the challenges afflicting Jozini Municipality Ward 4 residents, KwaZulu-Natal Agriculture and Rural Development has heard that apart from known water shortages, the Ward with a population of just over eight thousand, also battles socio-economic challenges such as high rate of unemployment (70 %), and poverty.
Locals shared their frustrations pertaining to stock theft, carjacking, lack of access to markets for their fresh produce and a lack in dipping chemicals (Acaricides).
KaMadlopha-Mthethwa who's the MEC Champion for uMkhanyakude District Municipality but a deployee of Ward 04 on this programme, also learned that social grants and farming are some of the sources of income for most of the locals.
KaMadlopha-Mthethwa and her entourage also visited several projects in Ward 04, including Isifisokuhle Cooperative Garden and an ECD with a green garden. A house was also handed over to a destitute family.
KaMadlopha-Mthethwa and other MECs deployed in various Wards, reported back on these visits at the main event at Bhambanana Sportsfield in Jozini.
