Handover of Livestock Genetic Improvement Bulls (Brahman) and Communal Investment Infrastructure in eThekwini Metro

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Super Zuma, visited the uMbumbulu community to inaugurate the comprehensive agricultural programme to the community of uMbumbulu under the Ethekwini Metro on
17 May 2024.

MEC Super Zuma handed over Brahman bulls to Amakhosi in uMbumbulu which will aid in the genetic improvement of communal herds as the red meat market requires that farmers produce quality meat in order to make substantial profit.

With the resurgence of Foot and Mouth Disease, MEC Zuma was in the area to also spread awareness and to encourage farmers to vaccinate their livestock.

Winkelspruit pet owners were also afforded an opportunity to vaccinate their pets against rabies to prevent unnecessary human deaths. eThekwini has had the highest number of infections including human deaths and the only available prevention is through vaccination.

While in uMbumbulu, MEC Super Zuma visited communal projects including Obivane Diptank, a broiler project under Hamashe Farming and various households to ensure that none went without food as the One Home One Garden initiative was the solution to hunger.
