MEC Super Zuma hosted an information sharing session with the KZN Livestock Associations to deliberate on issues and opportunities with the Red Meat sector.

Speaking during the meeting on Monday 08 April 2024, MEC Super Zuma said “We are excited that the structure is now alive, which represents the interests of livestock associations in the Province. Today’s meeting was important because we needed to understand plans to transform the sector. I am happy with the progress thus far and further development will be outlined during the launch of the Provincial Livestock Association Structure in the month of May this year.”

The Provincial Livestock Committee was elected in August 2023 and the province currently has 53 Livestock Associations and 2207 dip tanks with an estimate of over 100 000 members. All 11 Districts were represented by leaders who brought forth all issues hindering their growth and progress.

MEC Super Zuma emphasised the importance of livestock associations as they enabled a conducive environment for the Department to work closely with farmers and they were a means to control animal diseases in rural communities.
