Livestock Indaba Roadshows

Livestock Indaba Roadshows will assist in bridging the gap of communication between Livestock Associations and the Department

Hon. MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in KwaZulu-Natal, Mrs Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi, has embarked on hosting Livestock Indaba Roadshows in an effort to engage with livestock associations within the Province.

The first phase of the Livestock Indaba Roadshow was held in King Cetshwayo District. The second phase was held on the 27 January 2023 within the UMzinyathi District.

The purpose of these roadshows is to provide a platform in order to engage farmers on obstacles they face on a day-to-day basis, to come up with amicable solutions and to create awareness about the different livestock programmes in the Department. Livestock continues to contribute immensely in the lives of people in rural areas as they not only use livestock for consumption purposes, but it is also a way of generating an income.

While addressing the farmers, the Hon. MEC stated, “As a Department, we have embarked on many programmes from the year 2022/23 and one of the many programmes the Department has started, is building and fixing of livestock clinics”. The livestock clinics will permit the farmers to care for their livestock and gain more knowledge on how to keep the livestock healthy enough to be sold in auctions so they can generate income and grow as farmers.

These Livestock Indaba’s are a build-up to the upcoming Provincial Livestock Indaba, under the theme of ‘Developing rural economy through livestock.’
