Farm Services at Dundee Research Station are responsible for general running and maintenance on the Farm, to produce hay and maize as required and to provide services to enable Sections to conduct research.
Maize production
- 15 ha for Silage
- 15 ha maize production and trials
Eragrostis Hay (40 ha)
Water Reticulation
- Six water pumps are used to pump water to 4 reservoirs and 3 storage tanks to be used for 24 houses, Offices and ±500 animals, water piping- 40 km
Fencing
- Repairs and maintenance are carried out on approximately 400 km of fences and 250 steel gates
Roads
- Maintenance of 15 km farm roads. The roads are graded when necessary with a grader to ensure that it’s well maintained.
Land preparation
- Discing, ripping, ploughing, weeds and insect control.
- Land preparation done for all sections e.g. Farm Services, Agronomy Section, Animal Science, and Grassland Science.
Fires
- Firebreaks on boundary fences (56 km) and block burning for pasture- and Animal Sections.
- Protect farm against run-away fire from in the farm or from neighbours.
Beautification
- Maintains all lawns around the buildings, passages and next to the main roads
Buildings (7 740m² value at ± R 32.7 mil)
- Maintain of offices, residential accommodation (24 houses) and farm sheds
Major and minor equipment
- 10 tractors and ± 120 of other farm implements
Recurring Works
- Removal and dumping of rubbish weekly
Demonstrations
- Maize Cultivars are planted for demonstration purposes
