MEC’s distribution of production inputs to Umbumbulu Community

In a continued effort to strengthen food security and empower emerging farmers, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, officially handed over essential food security production inputs to Umbumbulu Local Farmers on Tuesday, 09 December 2025.

This initiative forms part of the Department’s unwavering commitment to uplifting farmers, expanding sustainable agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of farming communities across KwaZulu-Natal.

Hon. kaMadlopha-Mthethwa emphasised the importance of ensuring that farmers, particularly those at household levels, are equipped with the necessary tools and resources to build resilient food systems.

“Our goal is to empower every household and every farmer with the resources that will not only strengthen local food production, but also build long-term agricultural sustainability across our province,” said MEC kaMadlopha-Mthethwa.

The MEC also applauded the hard work and dedication of the Department’s Agricultural Extension Officers who continue to provide hands-on support to farmers in all Districts. “Our Extension Officers are the heartbeat of our service delivery. Their steadfast dedication to guiding and supporting farmers across the province continues to strengthen our agricultural sector. Their work not only sustains livelihoods but also inspires hope in our communities every day. We deeply value their unwavering commitment,” she added.

The Department remains committed to creating an enabling environment where farmers can thrive, communities can produce their own food with dignity and the agricultural sector can continue to grow as a pillar of economic development in KwaZulu-Natal.
