Law Enforcement Operations

On Wednesday, 18 December 2024 MEC Champion for uMkhanyakude District, Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, who's also the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, has paid a special tribute to the road traffic officers and other law enforcement agencies for what she said was sterling work in protecting the country's citizens on the roads. KaMadlopha-Mthethwa briefed the multiple law enforcement agencies in the Inkosi Mtubatuba Municipality Council meeting before they conducted a roadblock on the N2 around KwaBhoboza on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

These deployments include SAPS, the Road Traffic Inspectorate, and the South African National Defence Force. "Today, I want to pay a special tribute to the men and women in blue for their sterling work in protecting our citizens on the country's road networks. While many people are on holiday and enjoying themselves, you're out here protecting us and ensuring that we arrive alive to our various destinations," said kaMadlopha-Mthethwa. The MEC Champion for uMkhanyakude District also encouraged motorists and pedestrians to be safe ahead of Christmas and New Year holidays.

During the roadblock, a minibus taxi with Mozambican registration numbers was flagged. It was found that it had 17 passengers and a driver, all suspected to be illegal immigrants destined for various places within KwaZulu-Natal. They included two minors, children and adults who were all processed by immigration officers and the Department of Social Development for deportation. It is believed some were being trafficked.

Considering that livestock theft is rampant in the area , MEC Thembeni KaMadlopha Mthethwa also cautioned law enforcement to deal with farmers or anyone transporting livestock within the area , which also will help prevent the scourge of FMD in the area.
