The Veterinary Services Section successfully held their 4th Annual Provincial Veterinary Services conference. This session kicked off on Wednesday, 13 November 2024 and concluded on Thursday, 14 November 2024 in Durban. This conference is held on an annual basis and is attended by veterinary professionals. The conference creates a platform for veterinary professionals to share knowledge and engage with respective professionals on veterinary science and how to control epidemic and transboundary diseases.
One of the main purposes of the conference is for veterinary professionals to get accredited training to obtain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements. The CPD achievements are used in appraisals that create a better focus on personal development. The Continuity Professional’s Development requirements assist the veterinary professionals to keep practicing and to also continue to maintain their registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVS).
This registration is crucial for all veterinary professionals as without Veterinarians and para-veterinarians, the Department cannot render a veterinary service. The theme for the year 2024 conference was “Maximising Veterinary Science to Control Epidemic and Transboundary Diseases”. The theme aims to address the various challenges faced by the animal industry.
During this session, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Head of Department, Mr. Zibusiso Dlamini, stated that he appreciates this gathering of great minds because this is the time when they come up with the best solutions to solve the challenges currently faced by the animal industry. Mr Dlamini also encouraged the officials to unite and work together to assist the Department to combat the animal diseases such as Avian Influenza, Foot and Mouth Disease, Rabies and Corridor Disease. In his closing remarks, Mr Dlamini thanked all officials in attendance for working so diligently and with so much dedication.
