KZN DARD and SASSA Back-To-School Programme in Mtubatuba

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Hon. Super Zuma in his capacity as the MEC Champion of the uMkhanyakude District, together with Mrs. NI Vilakazi, Head of Department for Social Development, collaborated with the South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) to distribute uniforms to schools in Mtubatuba on 21 February 2024.

This is part of the Back to School initiative which endeavours to motivate and inspire learners and educators as they have begun the academic year. Over 200 learners from three schools in Mtubatuba, under the uMkhanyakude District, benefited from this initiative as they received a complete set of school clothes, including shoes and tracksuits.

MEC Zuma emphasized that family circumstances should never impact on how leaners are perceived at school because all children, regardless of their socio-economic status, deserve equal treatment. He once again applauded the achievement of matriculants in Umkhanyakude District, which has become the highest achiever in the province and third nationwide with 90% during 2023.

“I urge all parents and guardians to continue to encourage learners to strive for outstanding results, regardless of the circumstances they face on a daily basis, therefore they should emanate the act of the class of 2023, who rose above the odds and emerged victorious, raising the flag of the entire uMkhanyakude District" said MEC Zuma.
